A fantastic example of an enclosed estuarine system rare within its biogeographical region. It regularly supports in winter over 45,000 waterfowl including internationally important populations of pink footed geese and qualifys as a Wetland of International Importance.
Home to Inter-tidal mudflats, saltmarsh, marsh, saline lagoons, vascular plants, breeding wildfowl and wintering waders, stratigraphy. It is also a Non-statutory Geological Conservation Review Site.
